Customized support is essential to meeting students’ academic and social emotional goals. All students enrolled at Greenburgh Eleven UFSD are given additional instructional opportunities through individualized, independent and or group academic intervention services.

Tutoring:
All students are encouraged to participate in individualized and small group tutoring. Tutoring is scheduled to include all core academic areas, on every grade level. Tutoring provides remediation and reinforcement of skills as well as preparation for state assessments and Regents Exams.
CASTLE Learning:
Teachers use CASTLE learning as an instructional support tool. The website is designed to allow students to strengthen their individual skills through “self-study” activities, as well as to participate in classroom activities designed and assigned by their classroom teachers. The program provides activities on varying grade and ability levels across the curriculum.
IXL:
A web based personalized educational support program used to reinforce skills. The program offers practice in common core math and language arts skills in grades k-12. Additionally, Science and Social Studies activities are available for grades k-8.
Counseling Services:
All students are assigned a grade level counselor according to their homeroom. The counselor/psychologist works closely with the classroom staff to support student learning and behavioral challenges. Counselors greet students each morning as they enter school/class for an informal check in. Group and Individual counseling are provided to students per their IEP. Counseling topics are aligned with state standards based on grade level social emotional benchmarks. These include but are not limited to self-awareness, bully prevention, academic behaviors, social skills and career/college readiness. Our small counselor to student ratio makes it possible for students to interact daily with their counselor. Counselors are easily accessible to both students and parents. They frequently provide immediate support to students who may become dysregulated or require “crisis intervention”.
District Wide Assemblies:
Designed to bridge both academic and social emotional skills, monthly students assemblies are based on character themes that are mirrored throughout the building on bulletin boards and in classrooms. Each assembly is preceded with a writing prompt designed to encourage and improve students' written expression. Students must work collaboratively throughout the assemblies engaging in both academic and physical challenges. Incentives are awarded to students for sportsmanship, as well as successfully completing tasks.
Therapy Dog:
Greenburgh Eleven has partnered with Educated Canines Assisting with Disabilities (ECAD) to have a therapy dog visit on a monthly basis. A highlight to this program is in the pairing of students, of varying grade levels, to engage with the therapy dog. Students demonstrate positive peer interaction, improved self-esteem, and positive social skills while engaging in group discussions. Cognitive skills are nurtured as students select books to read to their classmates and the therapy dog.
RULER:
Greenburgh Eleven is in the third year of our district wide RULER program implementation. RULER is a SEL program for both staff and students stressing the importance of emotional intelligence in assisting our students to become productive members in the global community. All students are encouraged through active lessons to “recognize, understand, label, express and regulate” their emotions. The students and staff are taught that emotions play a large role in our decision-making and problem solving. Through staff support and modeling the students are taught skills to recognize the impact their emotions have and how to regulate their emotions based on their current situation.
Positive Behavior Supports: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe
A foundation of the District's behavioral plan for all students and staff members. Behavioral expectations are defined, taught, modeled and reinforced in all settings. Students are rewarded with Hawk Bills for doing the “right thing”. The Hawk Bills can be used to purchase items in the school store, to enter raffles, and for admission into special events. Elementary school students carry a Daily Progress Card that reminds each student of the three expectations each period.
The School Store
All students have an opportunity to shop from the school store each week. Students use their “hawk bills” to make purchases of varying value. Some items available include snacks, toys and headphones. The Elementary and Middle school supplement the Hawk Bills through a management system called Classroom Dojo. Students are given individual social emotional/behavioral goals and can earn DOJO points for meeting these goals. The system also continues supplemental SEL videos such as bully prevention and mindfulness. Parents are encouraged to join the class via an app for live updates on their child’s progress and communication with the teachers. These points can also be used in the school store.
Happy Friday
Happy Friday is an incentive program for students who have completed all of their schoolwork, homework, and have maintained their positive behavior through the week. Students are rewarded with a special “treat”, varying from breakfast items to pizza.
Clubs
The Elementary and Middle school offer bimonthly clubs to students. The students self-select from 3-4 high interest supplemental activities. Clubs have included yoga, chess, coding and arts and crafts. Participation in the clubs is aligned with PBS expectations.
Top Chef
Students in all grades participate in this after school culinary program. Students prepare a full meal including dessert. Dinner is served family style. This community building activity pairs staff members with students to plan, prepare and enjoy meals together.
Indoor/Outdoor Field Day/ Basketball Challenges:
Each month, a tentative scheduled indoor/outdoor field day and/or basketball challenge takes place. Students showing academic engagement that are meeting behavioral expectations can participate in these highly desirable activities.
