Elementary English and Language Arts

Our Elementary English Language Arts program helps our students learn the mechanics of reading and writing, especially those who struggle with comprehension and understanding text.  We want our students to learn to read for both learning and for pleasure. We want them to enrich their personal language skills, background knowledge, and vocabulary through writing and communicating with others.  With a strong foundation in the elementary classes we can support readers and writers so that our  students become lifelong learners who can effectively communicate

Grade 8 English

Our English program is designed to foster a deep love for literature, develop critical thinking and communication skills, and align with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In Grade 8, students will embark on an engaging journey through literature, language, and writing to prepare them for the challenges of high school and beyond.

The High School  English program is designed to cultivate a profound appreciation for literature, hone critical thinking and communication skills, and align with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In High School English, students will take a captivating journey through literature, language, and writing to prepare them for the rigors of advanced academics and life beyond high school and prepare them for the English Regents Examination.

High School English Courses

High School English classes emphasize the fundamental language skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening, thinking, viewing and presenting. To prepare students to take the Regents and read text in other subjects, we work on vocabulary and composition skills on-going as part of the program. to continue to build skills and improve the level of literary fluency.  Our courses includes studies of various literary genres: short story, poetry, novel, drama, and non-fiction. The development of critical reading and writing skills is a major emphasis of the course.
